In a Cooking Rut


I'm getting tired of making the same recipes over and over. I'm on the hunt for some new ones and just know that those of you who read this blog have some great recipes. So, I'm asking you for your family's favorite recipe. I would love something easy but I'm willing to put in the work for the really good stuff.
Last year I typed up all my favorite recipes and compiled my own cookbook. I printed it out and put it in page protectors and a 3-ring binder. Now I no longer have to search through all of my cookbooks for the recipe I want to make. For everyone who shares a recipe with me, I will email you my recipe book that I use. Some of the recipes I have shared on this blog and others I haven't yet.
So, share a recipe with me and I will share a bunch with you. It's a win-win situation.

  1. I have a binder I put my favorite recipes in... it's not super organized though. I can understand being in a cooking rut, I get in those sometimes and that is when I start looking through my cookbooks or my starred entries in Google Reader to find something new.
    Some of my favorites to spice things up are: Peanut Pad Thai (I make this very mild), Pizzas with different toppings - such as chicken soup pizza, and Pineapple Chicken Fajitas.

  2. I just started using a recipe management software to catalog all my recipes. One of my problems is that I don't use recipes most of the time. I finally hit a point where I can usually make stuff up in my head and have it turn out- at least for simple daily dinner things. We've also tried to go meatless most days of the week.

    Lately I've been making a really good vegetable pasta. I have no idea on measurements, but this is basically what I do:


    Chop up garlic, asparagus, carrots, broccoli, red peppers, mushrooms, shallots, roma or cherry tomatoes and/or any other vegetables that sound good. Sautee them in olive oil with sea salt, fresh ground pepper and red pepper flakes (if you like spicy). Boil a bunch of linguine. Add it to the vegetables. I usually have to add more olive oil as well. I just pour some on when the noodles are in the colander and shake it around a bit, otherwise they just stick together when I add it to the pan with the vegetables. Add a bunch more sea salt and pepper. I'll admit that I'm not too concerned with cutting down my sodium intake. Top with freshly grated Parmesan (I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Microplane-40020-Grater-Zester/dp/B00004S7V8). We love it and it's meatless. It's a little labor intensive because of all the chopping, and you need a big pan because it makes a surprisingly large quantity if you use lots of different kinds of vegetables. Makes good leftovers too.
